Not resolving host name correct

Hi,

I couldn't find any solution for my problem in the forum. I have a hostname with dynDNS which is redirecting to my server. Unfortunatly SmartFTP is resolving wrong the IP as you can see in the log. If I connect with exactly the same host name through IE it works fine. Firewall and Anti-Virus application has been disabled. Could be there another reason why SmartFTP can't resolve the IP correct?

A second issue is that SmartFTP is running on a Windows Vista machine and if you drag&drop files from the server to the local PC SmartFtp crashs. The dump file is following:

WARNING! An '_NT_SYMBOL_PATH' environment variable is not set, as a result ADPlus will be forced to use 'export' symbols (if present) to resolve function names in the stack trace information for each thread listed in the log file for the processes being debugged. To resolve this warning, please copy the appropriate symbols to a directory on the server and then create an environment variable with a name of '_NT_SYMBOL_PATH' and a value containing the path to the proper symbols (i.e. c:\winnt\symbols) before running ADPlus in quick or crash modes again. NOTE: After creating the '_NT_SYMBOL_PATH' system environment variable you will need to close the current command shell and open a new one before running ADPlus again.

SmartFTP uses the windows API to resolve the host name. You can try to flush the dns cache. Go to the command line then type:
ipconfig /flushdns

>Crash
Provide the crash dump as described here:
https://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/how- ... f2594.html

Regards,
Mat

Hi Mat,

here is the dump file: at rapidshare

Regarding resolving the IP adress: I can ping without any problem the host as you can see here for example:

Image

But only SmartFTP can't access the server as you can see here:

Image

Regards
Stefan

You have entered the wrong host name. One is homeunic, the correct one is homeunix.

yeah, I have realized that when I have posted the images. But exactly the same happens when I put the correct name in. Will post on monday again the image with the correct host name

Can you please try to reproduce the crash again with the latest beta version?
https://www.smartftp.com/download

If it crashes please provide the crash dump. Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Mat

I looked at your previous crash report and when looking at the stack trace the crash may originate from another shell extension you have installed. Please install ShellExView and try to disable some shell extension (the ones from Microsoft are all okay):
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

Regards,
Mat

Hello Mat,

I have gone through shell extentions and disabled all which are not from microsoft, updated SmartFTP to the newest beta version and it stills crashes. It's only one situation when it crashes: When I download from the FTP server a file by drag&drop into the folder pane (below link with mark for better understanding). As well I am send you below the link for the new crash report. Hope you can find something.

Regards
Stefan

Dump: Rapidshare

Image: Rapidshare

Thank you. The crash is in shell32.dll. I noticed that there a couple of 3rd party modules loaded:
SysHook.dll *C:\Acer\Empowering Technology\ePower\SysHook.dll
TosBtExt.dll *C:\Windows\System32\TosBtExt.dll
TosBtShell.dll *C:\Windows\System32\TosBtShell.dll

The later 2 files seem to be coming from the bluetooth driver/software. I recommend you uninstall the Toshiba bluetooth software. A quick google returned the following links/articles:
http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/micros ... ution.html
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/ne ... ;sloc=&p=1
http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx ... orer-crash

It actually seems to be a known problem with the Toshiba Bluetooh driver.

Mat
