Nordic characters æøå in file names are changed

When a file containing nordic charcters æøå in the file name is uploaded the characters are changed to something else (greek letters I belive).
When the files are downloaded in version 2 and version 3 the greek letters persist, when they are downloaded in version 1 the nordic letters re-apperas
When files with names containing æøå exist in the server side, they be seen in the directory but not be downloaded (error 550 cannot be listed)

This happens because your server does not support UTF8 or not correctly. Usually you can fix the problem by changing the code page in the FTP->Connection dialog in the favorite properties to ANSI.

Mat

I assume yopu mean: Go to favorites/edit favorites and rightclik on the selected favorit link and select properties
When I choose Connection, I cannot se any place to select ANSI.
The ASCII/Binary under FTP, is set to Auto as you reccomend other places in the forum

/Knut

No. I actually meant the codepage option in the FTP->Transfer dialog. Set to ANSI and try again.

The UTF8 on your server is broken. Please post the complete log.

Here is the complete log when I try to move the file from the server to to PC.
Did I understand cortrectly that the server setup should be UTF8, but the PC setup should be ANSI (not UTF8)?

Can you post the log from the Remote Browser window?

OK - here it is.
The transfer is visible in the Transfer Queue window, but nothing happens. By clicking the file in the Transfer Queue, the log in the previous psot is visible.

Apparently I dont understand what log to post - I used the one from the log window in the remote browser....
So a little more help to find the right log, please
/Knut

complete log means the full log and not just part of it.

complete log means the full log and not just part of it.

OK, so the content is the correct one, I understand.
Here is a new, complete log from the time I select a directory until I have selected af file from download and moved to the local directory.
I cannot understand what more you expect to be in the log.
As mentioned, nothig happends - the file is show in the transfer queue with a zzz symbol.

I can see that others have the same problem, i.e. "speed" from 23rd February 2009 - 03:13 PM with the topic "special character filename on Host - howto delete ?"
Please note that is has not been a problem with earlier versions of the programme (which are in current use on the same server without these problems).

This is standard answer is becomming quite unnoying. I have tried several times posted what i understand is the "complete log from the Remote Browser". I have also asked for directions if the log is not what you expect.
Plesase extend your answer to a more helpful instruction.

Looks like a bug with the server to me. Try to post a bug report on the proftpd website.
http://bugs.proftpd.org/

Regards,
Mat

I don't understand what you are saying, except that it is not your problem.
I have looked at the site, and that is too technical for me.

What I know is that this works fine with previous versions of your sw, and the current version seem to be a problem for people using nordic/special characters.

Where can I find previous versions for download?

Regards
Knut

You can try to change the codepage to ANSI. Go to the favorite properties:
1. Menu: Favorites->Edit Favorites
2. Go to the Quick Connect folder
3. Right-click on the favorite and select Properties from the context menu
4. Go to the FTP->Transfer dialog and change the Default Codepage to ANSI

This might work but it does not fix the bug with the FTP server.

Regards,
Mat

I have done that Jan 27 2009 accoding to prevous advise in this thread.
/Knut

Please post the log with the codepage set to ANSI.

And if possible can you email me (support at smartftp.com) the raw directory listing of the directory containing the directory/file? To get the raw directory listing, right-click on the folder/directory and select Show Raw Listing from the context menu.

Thank you
Mat

Hi
I have sent you in emails the raw listings for ANSI an UTF8 - what did you find out?
FYI, the settings at the server side is
Language settings = Danish (Unicode)
Check i Allow Unicode for user, group and share names
Check i Enable character encoding conversion for FTP clients.

/Knut

I did not find any problems with SmartFTP.
