Question regarding cron jobs capabilities

I am looking to purchase this program but have a few questions before I do...

I am connecting to an FTP server and need to be able to create a cron job or some sort of automation steps that will upload and download files from the ftp location at a particular time to/from a particular folder

Can this handle that?

I am having trouble scheduling a file for download...how do I do that, I followed the instructions above but it doesnt seemt o be doing anything

On the ftp server there is a new file everyday...can the scheduler download only the new file every day at a certain time? Or is there another method?

Yes this is possible. SmartFTP will only download the new files.
