I want to cry. :((( Connection failures

Ok, so I am running the free version of SmartFTP 2.5.1006 on windows Vista Business and am trying to connect to two seperate FTP servers.
I can connect to both but only for a few seconds. Once I try to do any action at all, delete, upload or whatever, I receive this message and am disconnected :

An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

I have tried switching from Active to passive and back again. I have tried disabling my Vista firewall completely and also the router firewall, no joy.

I have tried switching from binary to ascii mode, no joy.

I am completely baffled.

I have tried using software other than SmartFTP and had similar problems so I suspect it is my home network... However, I am lost as to what the problem is.

I have a new Netgear RP614v4 router if that is of any significance.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

It's 2007 and still I haven't mastered the evils of FTP... *Cries into keyboard*

Thanks,

Neekos

cheers

The sudden disconnect in your log shows a problem between your computer and the host you are connecting you. Try to disable any perosnal software firewall you have installed on your computer and try again.

Hi,

I have already disabled the firewall on my pc and also on the router... I have my machine setup as a DMZ on the router too.
Upnp is enabled on the router and ports 21-22 are forwarded to me (Although they don't need to be since I'm not a server, as I understand it).

Thanks,

Neekos

I have today unplugged the router entirely and tried again. The same problem occured.

I have tried on 2 machines, one is XP pro, the other is Vista business, as before.. The same problem occured.

I tried connecting via a proxy using SmartFTP's inbuilt proxy option but it wouldn't connect at all to the proxy.

I have tried using CoreFTP today and had more success immediately, however it wasn't perfect. It would at least connect to the proxy and could upload files about 75-80% of the time.... I am still baffled.

Thanks.
