How to collect crash reports

Crash reports/dumps can greatly help us find and fix problems you are experiencing with SmartFTP. To collect the crash dumps on your computer please follow these steps:

If SmartFTP crashes

  1. Download and extract WindowsErrorReporting.zip
  2. Open regedit.exe as Administrator
  3. In regedit, go to the menu: File - Import
  4. Select the "Enable Windows Error Reporting.reg" file from the zip in step 1.
  5. Start SmartFTP
  6. Reproduce the crash
  7. The crash dump is created at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps
  8. Compress (zip, rar) the .dmp file and upload it to zippyshare.com, 1fichier.com or to your preferred file hoster.

If SmartFTP hangs (Window not responding)

  1. Start SmartFTP
  2. Reproduce the problem until SmartFTP hangs
  3. Open the Windows Task Manager (taskmgr.exe)
  4. Click on More details if you do not already see the detailed view
  5. Go to the Details tab
  6. Right-click on the SmartFTP.exe process
  7. Select Create dump file from the context menu
  8. The dump file is written to the %temp% folder
  9. Compress (zip, rar) the .dmp file and upload it to zippyshare.com, 1fichier.com or to your preferred file hoster.

Miscellaneous

Heap corruption

If a heap corruption is suspected, enable heap tracing:
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Debuggers\x64\gflags.exe" –p /enable SmartFTP.exe /full

To disable heap tracing:
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Debuggers\x64\gflags.exe" -p /disable SmartFTP.exe
