How to collect crash reports

Crash reports/dumps can greatly help us find and fix problems you are experiencing with SmartFTP. To collect the crash dumps on your computer please follow these steps:

If SmartFTP crashes

  1. Download and extract WindowsErrorReporting.zip
  2. Open regedit.exe as Administrator
  3. In regedit, go to the menu: File - Import
  4. Select the "Enable Windows Error Reporting.reg" file from the zip in step 1.
  5. Start SmartFTP
  6. Reproduce the crash
  7. The crash dump is created at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps
  8. Compress (zip, rar) the .dmp and upload it to zippyshare.com or your preferred website.

If SmartFTP hangs (Window not responding)

Preparation
  1. Download and install the latest Debugging Tools for Windows
    Windows SDK
  2. During the installation, select the Debugging Tools for Windows box and clear all the other boxes.
  3. Start SmartFTP
  4. Open the command line (cmd.exe)
    Click the Start button in Windows
    Select Run...
    Enter cmd.exe
    Press Enter on your keyboard
Reproduce hang
  1. Start SmartFTP
  2. Reproduce the problem until SmartFTP hangs
  3. Execute the following command at the command line prompt:
    32-bit Version:
    "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Debuggers\x86\adplus.exe" -hang -pn SmartFTP.exe -o C:\Dump
    64-bit Version:
    "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Debuggers\x64\adplus.exe" -hang -pn SmartFTP.exe -o C:\Dump

    Dump files will be generated at “C:\Dump”.
    Remarks: Ignore the "Missing symbol paths variable" popup.
