Stops Working

For awhile now, after two weeks of continues use SmartFTP no longer downloads when it is scheduled to do so. I currently use SmartFTP to download SQL Backups daily at a scheduled time, after two weeks without any problems, SmartFTP suddenly stops downloading these backups. Attempting to restart these downloads fail and the result is that I have to restart the SmartFTP application. The event log reports that there are insufficient resources to run this task, but having checked the system, it has plenty of resources to spare.

I run SmartFTP on Windows 2003 R2 and it continues to run in the background until the above problem occurs in which I have to restart the application until the problem happens again in around two weeks time. I try to keep SmartFTP as update to date as possible in the hope that this problem would be fixed but unfortunately this has no been the case.

I would like to know if anyone has any suggestion as to what may be causing the problem, if this problem has happened to you and what I can do to fix the problem.

Kind Regards,
Andrew

I dont think i explained this correctly or maybe I am misunderstanding

SmartFTP runs on the main administrator account and the schedules are setup within SmartFTP to download the SQLBacks everyday.

I hope this clears things up.

You need to provide logs or anything else that helps to find out what's not working. The fact that SmartFTP doesn't work under some specific circumstances on your computer does not really help so much.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Unfortunately at the time, i did not have logging enabled in SmartFTP so I may have to wait for this to happen again and report back to you with my finds, however i was able to get some system event logs.

Hello,

Its happened again. I managed to get some logs from SmartFTP, i was wondering if i could e-mail a zipped copy of the logs to you?

Regards,
Andrew

Please upload it to rapidshare.com or to your own server and send the link to us.

Mat

Hello Mat,

The problem occurred again over the weekend. The last successful transfer was Friday so over the weekend it did not transfer anything. There were no logs for the 4 or the 5 of October but strangely enough, success e-mails were sent for those days.

What do you make of this very strange behaviour?

Regards,
Andrew

What does the success email say? Maybe your file was skipped because it was the same as on the destination?

I hope this e-mail log helps.

This is not a log from SmartFTP.

No logs are recorded, only success e-mails.

This is no email from SmartFTP either.

I have to apologies. I got confused between the sql server backup e-mail and the smartFTP e-mails which all come from the same e-mail address.

It doesnt seem any SmartFTP logs or e-mails are produced at all for the weekend which doesnt seem to help either of us to determine the problem

Any suggestions on what to do or test for next?

It's a bit hard for us to figure out the problem from the information you have provided. Are you running the latest version (3.0.1023.4) of SmartFTP? If not please install it from: https://www.smartftp.com/download

Then run SmartFTP under a user account with a UI interface. For example login to the server with TS and then start SmartFTP. Then close the terminal session without logging out. This way you can always go back and see what wen wrong if you should not get any emails.

Mat
