"broken pipe" - error - then doesn't connect

I am having a problem with a "broken pipe" - error - then doesn't connect to the server.
used to work fine eveyday. now it takes more than 20 seconds trying to connect then logs a
"broken pipe" - error - then doesn't connect.
what is happening?

Your server closes the connection while a transfer is in progress and you can do nothing from the client site, talk to your server admin to find out what is wrong with the server.

The user reported his problem has been fixed by changing the data transfer method from passive mode to active mode.
