Self-contained version of SmartFTP?

Hello,

Is there a self-contained version of SmartFTP? - I mean a zip file distribution. I would like to be able to install SmartFTP on my portable hard drive - without having to run installer on a host PC. It is a very convenient feature to have: just plug in your HDD via USB2 to any PC and off you go FTP'ing.
Firefox, Thunderbird and several other apps have this feature...

They don't have this feature "out of the box". Instead, special "portable" versions are maintained which have some modifications. For SmartFTP, some (minor) modifications would be necessary, too, if you do not want to allow it to store its settings on the PC you're using.

So is it possible to run SmartFTP without intalling it properly?

Sure, but in its current state it will write to the host machine's APPDATA folder and registry, and drag & drop will not work properly (because the shell extension is not registered on the host machine).
