STUDIODM
Hi,
We have been using SmartFTP for a number of years in the office with a multiple system licence and not had any problems until recently when I wanted to upgrade to the recent release (v1.5.988). Although the product installed without issue, upgrading the original release, I am experiencing a whole range of extremely annoying problems with this release.
I have also installed this new release on a 2003 server the other day and I am also experiencing the same issues so this is certainly not limited to our network here. I have used previous versions of SmartFTP on 2003 and 2000 server without issue.
The problems I am experiencing are as follows:
1) Unreliable file transfers, uploading files to overwrite an existing number of files, although I am asked to overwrite it says "Transfer Complete", then directly underneath "Transfer Failed". Looking at the files I had chosen to upload only a small number would have been uploaded. If I then delete the files on the remote FTP location and attempt to upload again I am asked to overwrite the files, even though they no longer exist. I could understand this might be a problem with the caching, but if I close SmartFTP and reload (the cache is set to be cleared when the app is closed), it still says the files exist and they are not uploaded correctly or at all. We are using a number of FTP server applications, mainly IIS6 FTP, but also proFTPd (Linux).
2) There appears to be some odd issue when attempting to upload files to a new FTP location. If the file doesn't exist I am presented with the following error when uploading
The file appears to upload correctly (as a version never existed in the destination folder in this scenario).
3) When opening a new FTP connection, the remote FTP window now comes below the Local Browser. The original FTP versions have always displayed the remote FTP window above the Local Browser. Dragging files "up" to the above window suggests "uploading". As this has changed without notice, its slightly confusing for some of the users here and unfortunately some files have been accidentaly downloaded from the remote FTP location and overwritten our local versions! I have checked the window arrangement and there is no preference to change the window order. What was the reason for changing the order?

I paid for the upgrade to trial the new version of this software and at the same time also upgraded all the other workstations in the office. I am apprehensive about spending any money upgrading our licence for some software that doesn't work correctly.
Any ideas if there are any bug fixes for the above issues? In response to the above problems I have gone through the Tools > Settings and checked and double checked all settings, turning off new features such as the XCRC checking etc, to no avail. Even though the feature is apparently turned off it still attempts to perform file size comparisons.
Thanx for your replies. Richard[/code]
