100% CPU Usage and very slow upload speeds

I am a TV student and have been using SmartFTP to upload large video files for a long time now.

I have a good PC for editing with 2.7ghz, 1gb ram, so that shouldn't cause any problems. I have broadband with a 256kbps upload speed.

For the last few days when I have been uploading files the speed has started at the usual 30kbps and then dropped over 2-3 mins to 2-4kbps. Also as soon as I start the upload the CPU usage shoots upto 100% - all Smart FTP.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

I have the same problem. This happens since version 1.0.97x.

This is my system config:

There is a CPU usuage problem before and after the actual upload. The upload itself (when the transfers happens) is not slow and is taking a minimum of CPU resources (1-2% CPU). Therefore this problem is not affecting the upload transfer rates.

If you are having slow upload speeds, please do not post into this thread.

Thank you
-Mat

no,

when smartftp is idle cpu usage is 2-3%

As soon as I start an upload, CPU use hits 99% then upload speed slips away to almost nothing.

When I stop the upload and close remote connection, activity continues for 20 seconds then stops and CPU use returns to 0 - 3%

I need a bit of help here....

Do you have the file logging enabled?

Can you post a log of your FTP session. Thank you.

-Mat

yes of course, here is my log

thanks...

The part after the transfer (STOR) is not in the log.

hi mb, thanks for your continued fast responses!

that is the entire log produced by Smartftp all I have done is hide IP addresses.

I have noted that even if I exit the program, the GUI disappears but smartftp is still active at 100% in taskmgr?

The latest version 1.5 Build 988.34 fixes the problem with the high CPU usage just after the transfer completed.

problem solved!!

Zonealarm Pro despite being shut down completely was the issue.

I had to completely uninstall it....

Smartftp is working flawlesslt again!

Thanks,
