SP2 Lock up

Hey, enjoyed the program for the last year or so since i discovered it but i just upgraded to the latest build and everytime i try to initate a connection, the program always locks up no matter the site. My windows firewall is open for that program as it worked in the previous build 1.0.981 i believe. I have to downgrade to do anything as the moment i hit that button the program dies.

Here not problem at all on Windows XP with SP2 for a month, have you tryed to run SmartFTP with the firewall off?

Although i had the port open, and it worked on SP2 with the previous version, i did it anyway, same lock up. I only have a cable modem right now, so theres no firewall on there. I have tried rebooting to no avail, to.

Ok, i completely uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it, it worked the first couple of times, then started freezing again. I don't get it. Nothing changed.

Do you tryed to scan your system for viruses/spyware? some of them can cause that troubles. Check www.antivirus.com for an online free scan and clean.

Although i have not expierenced anything bad or shown virus effects, i went ahead and went to housecall.trendmicro.com for a check as i had no antivirus tool. It's search turned up 3 java exploits, specifically all the java.bytever.a. I searched it up on google and it seems to be not as dangerous as some.

This surprised me as the only thing i had was adaware se which i keep reguarly updated. So, i went ahead and purchased norton antivirus 2005, and did the live update. 15 restarts later, it actually turned up 3 more things.

Turns out they were nothing more than stupid homepage hijackers and website stat scripts. I use Firefox as my primary browser, so i guess the few times i actually opened IE they slipped in. Oh well, anyway after this i restarted my computer and the sftp still locked up.

So i uninstalled the program then reinstalled it. And it worked? Tried 3 times, worked fine. Making double sure this time, i restarted and checked it out. It still worked, i restarted the application multiple times to the same result.

As an Internet Technical Support Specialist/Web Developer for a leading dsl company, i have heard my fair share of very odd situations like this. Knowing windows, it can do the opposite of what you want it to, or think it should do. Although i'm still skeptical of why a homepage hijacker would tamper with an ftp program is far fetched, imo, i suppose it wouldn't be a wrong idea.

Damn winsocks.
