Local Folders file types?

In my local folders window I can only see my directories and .zip files why cant I see all my other file types. Even if i right click on a folder
and select explore i cannot see any files.

I guess you are using the "Local Folder Bar". As the name suggests, this is for viewing *folders* (well, and ZIP files as Windows XP handles them as folders by default). What you want is the "Local Browser" which you get by pressing Ctrl-L.
