Index.html page - what goes in it?

Yep my browser opens up an index page with a list of links to my pages.
I've read the message that says I need an index.html file but what do I put in that page, I don't want it to display but I want it to point to my home page, so how do I do that?

I just know there's going to be a real simple answer to this.

Hi, rename your 1st file of homepage has index.html.

P.S. this don't have nothing to do with SmartFTP client.
