New XP computer, new download - can't get Smartftp to work

I just got a new Windows XP media center computer and downloaded SmartFTP. I had no trouble on my old computer but can't get this one to work. Below is the log, I changed my site name for privacy. I disabled windows firewall, and am using zone alarm but have permission for smartftp. I can't figure out what else to do. Can anyone help?

SmartFTP v1.5.990.11
Resolving host name "ftp.mysitename.com"
Connecting to 65.174.87.10 Port: 21
Connected to ftp.mysitename.com.
220 FTP Server v3.0 for WinSock ready...
421 Connection timed out - closing.

I had just the same problem you describe. Found the solution to be an advice given by the Devil (sounds a bit risky  ) in another message on the forum.

"One stumbling block with firewalls is a default feature of Win XP.

It may be necessary to stop Application Layer Gateway Service (Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services) before anything can happen with
SFTP."

This solved my problem and now I'm connected!

There is no known problem with SmartFTP and the Windows XP Firewall software. It's more likely another firewall software (Norton, Symantec et al.) or anti virus product (McAfee Worm protection) which causes the problem. Try to disable/uninstall them and try again. Try to connect to a different server to see if you have the same problem.
