FTP-actively rejects sign on

I am new to this so bear with me.
When trying to sign on to Smart FTP to access FTP at Bluehost, I use all the correct host names, passwords etc., and I keep getting a message that the server is actively rejecting my request to sign on. But, when I e-mail Bluehost and they try it from thier end, htey log on without a problem. What am I doing wrong? And I did give access to SmartFTP through my firewall.

i am experiencing the same problem, but with all sites i try to connect to. i have been using smart ftp for over a year and never had any problems. now, all of a sudden, anytime i try to connect, i get a message saying
"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." i have tried reinstalling smart ftp, but to no avail... suggestions???
