Just search the forum ... there are plenty of threads about this issue, though its cause is not really known yet.

Well, I had this issue now... at least there is a fix. What causes this? Or is this yet to be discovered? (I don't want to make another bug to cause it to break like this again)

I just had the same problem. The registry update fixed it for me as well.
The only recent software install that I can think of is Trend Micro Internet Security 2005.

It's a registry setting. We thought it's something in the SoftwareSmartFTPDisplay branch but it seems it's somewhere else.
