I've had this problem for quite sometime on my Windows 2000 home PC and today it was finally remedied, because I properly registered smarthook.dll file, thanks to help of this thread:

Before I tried registering the smarthook.dll file, I tried everything else that was suggested under the help forums regarding this problem, but nothing worked. Rebooted numerous times - nothing - dreaded "sftpdrop" problem stubbornly remained....until today!!!!!
I'd like to share what I did exactly.
Bascially, I did this:
1. Start>Run> (typed) CMD (ok)>Command promp comes up
2. Changed directory's to c:program filessmartftp
(the smarthook.dll file resides in the program files>smartftp folder)
3.Then typed: regsvr32 smarthook.dll
a message pops up saying 'smarthook.dll was succesfully registered' (hit OK) then rebooted.
Once W2K came back up, kicked on SmartFTP, logged in, dropped n' dragged a jpg file off my site onto my desktop and ...voila...to my amazement ...it thankfully worked! no more freekin' annoying sftpDROP folder!!!!!
So, I just wanted to THANK the people for the contributed helpful tips under that thread I linked above.
