NTL connection problem

Right, so i'm trying to upload one poxy page to my ntl webspace.
1st time i've tried this :?
downloaded SmartFTP, it's what i used ages ago and what uni uses, so i'm fairly comfortable with it.
But i get this error....

220 upload.ntlworld.com FTP server ready
AUTH TLS
500 AUTH not understood.
Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...

My username and password are correct, i'm using the addy it says on the ntl page (upload.ntlworld.com), so i don't really get what's up with this thing.

This is literally all i've done (tried using the ntl ftp thing and that didn't work either, came up with different error and didn't seem as nice as Smart), i don't know a lot (anything) about ftp stuff, just want to put this page of thumbnails up for my friends (band photographer).

Any ideas please?

Switch to the "FTP" protocol instead of the "FTP over SSL (Explicit)" protocol in protocol selection next to the address field in the toolbar.

Or if your server requires AUTH SSL, change it in the Settings->Connection->SSL

Erm, if that doesn't seem to work?
