SmartFTP Won't Show File Directory in EDX

We recently purchased the new version of Smart FTP but it doesn't appear to be working properly with our EDX mailbox.  The older version worked fine.  I'll connect to the ftp site with login and password, port 21.  I'll see the file pane open up but the folder pane on the left just shows the root and the SmartFTP ftp window grinds away trying to get the folder list I imagine.  This used to work fine in the older version we had. 
Please assist.  If we can't find a quick resolution to this I'm going to request a refund.
