startup options - how to keep the client from requiring IE

I have smartftp client installed in a reasonably locked-down environment.
On startup, an error is thrown with 'Internet Explorer' telling me 'the content within this application coming from the website below is being blocked by Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration' and the website is ..
Now ordinarily I'd simply move that site to trusted and be done, but this is an install using Remote Desktop Services, which means mucking around with a GPO.  I don't mind doing that, but I was hoping for a startup option that would tell smartftp to stop looking at the website.
Is there such a thing?

You shouldn't see the message when the the trial dialog (HTML control) is not shown.

Ah!  I'll make sure to put that in my notes.  Thanks.
