I think you are affected by the same problem others users have been reporting: A buggy software firewall / antivirus product prevents shell notifications from being delivered to SmartFTP. Solution: Uninstall your software firewall and antivirus product. If you are looking for a free antivirus product that works, use Microsoft Security Essentials and upgrade to Windows 7 for the firewall feature.
