THought this might be of value to folks who run Google Desktop and who, like me, have found SmartFTP to behave erratically.
As GD is perpetually indexing files on my HD, I guess it is also looking at SFTP and refreshing files there. This causes the FTP files to flicker and refresh incessantly - so badly does this happen that it causes files I've highlighted to disappear from my open window. Very annoying.
But the solution is simple - just kill GD for the time you're in SFTP. Flicker gone. Not sure if other have that problem but wanted to register this to make searchable.
