SSL works on one computer but not another

Hello!

I am on the verge of buying SmartFTP but before I do, I need to ensure that SSL connections work consistently.

I have two laptops, both are Windows XP. They have different SSL certificates on them. On one of them, the SSL explicit connection to my server works fine every time. I have the settings the exact same, but on the other laptop, I have never been able to get SmartFTP to work with my server. The server is a Gene6 FTP server set for "Regular FTP, allow explicit SSL"

I've created my own SSL certificates and used the different ones on my system to no avail. In fact, I can't even get on the ftp.smartftp.com site via SSL. I think it has to do with the SSL certificates and the configuration of SmartFTP on my laptop but I can't figure out what to change.

Thank you for your help! Hope to become a paying customer soon...

Hello ..

It looks to me like a problem with your Windows configuration (registry, cert store, Schannel) on your laptop. Create a new user account on the laptop. Then run SmartFTP from the newly created user account.

Additionally try to recreate the client cert:
1. Menu: Favorites->Edit Favorites
2. Locate your favorite. Look in the Quick Connect folder
3. Right-click on the favorite. Select Properties.
4. Go to the FTP->Connection->SSL dialog
5. Set the client cert options to Enable
6. Click on Create Cert
7. Use the default settings in the cert dialog and fill in some random data for the other information
8. Make sure that the new cert is now selected
9. Click OK a couple of times and connect to the favorite again

Regards,
Mat
