error when starting FTP

Hi there,

I am new with the smart FTP client. I made a mistake yesterday on an upload with my cpanel where the folder had been moved so it was erroring me saying the folder was unavailable or had been moved. It is all corrected now with my web server and cpanel of my hosting account. However every time I open the program of smart FTP I get a number of error windows that are still referring to that problem of that particular site being unavailable.

The hosting company has it all correct and it is correct in my own computer but FTP is reflecting this with an aggravating set of windows that I have to press okay to get out of at least 5 or 6 times.

Any way to clear up that problem and have it be up to date with the rest of us?

Thank you,
hulagirl

Hello ..

You can try to delete the SmartFTP registry key:
1. Start menu. Then Run...
2. Enter regedit.exe into the input box. Press Enter
3. Delete the registry key at: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SmartFTP

Regards,
Mat

Hi Mat,

will everything else remain in the program if I do that?

hulagirl

Yes some settings will get lost but not your favorites.

If you want you can just rename the registry key instead of deleting it. For example
Rename
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SmartFTP
To
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SmartFTP Backup

Hi Mat,

It worked. Thank you. You are a genius. It is just needing a reconnection
to the server and that's it. Voila! Thank you again.

I am a happy camper now.

I am actually having a similar problem, but my error occurs locally. It can reproduced as follows:

  • create a local directory
  • enter that directory in a local browser
  • create a remote connection
  • close SFTP
  • delete the local directory
  • restart SFTP
  • get error stating that "directory XXX refers to a location that is unavailable...."

This is fine when I am running SFTP locally/manually but I do a lot of automation (I have the professional lic.) with it (via C#) and I would like to know the exact key to delete that is storing the local MRU item that is no longer valid. If I know this I can just delete that key or MRU's in general (while preserving the rest of the environment settings) and also ensure that the automation works all of the time.

Thank you

It's not an error per se. It basically gives you a warning that the local folder doesn't exist anymore.
