Trouble with Folders

Whenever I try to make a new folder, it says access is denied? Why is this? I just downloaded FTP so I don't have any other folders, but whenever I try to make one it says access denied..

Hi luckysevens,

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the FTP account (username and password) doesn't have the privileges assigned necessary to create folders or directories.

really? I got my domain from 1and1 and it gave me a username and everything, but do I need to buy a new domain
