530 Login problems

Today I dowloaded SmartFTP to see whether it is a viable alternative for another client I'm using. At first sight, it looks quite impressive. However, I have some trouble connecting to one of my usual servers.

I have configured a connection, but every time I try to connect I get the following message:

[10:11:47] 220 (vsFTPd 2.0.1)
[10:11:47] AUTH TLS
[10:11:47] 530 Please login with USER and PASS.

In the connection I've chosen the 'Username & Password' login type and filled in the login and password correctly.
This login and password are still valid, as I am able to login using other FTP clients. (Filezilla and LeechFTP)

Is there a way for me to login using SmartFTP?

You need to select the correct protocol which is normal FTP. To do this go to menu: File - Connection. Then fill in the username/password and host and for the protocol select FTP. Click OK to connect.
