Educational License problem

I have been using SmartFTP with an educational license for a while now, almost two years. Lately, when I open SmartFTP I get the Expiration notice. After a few attempts at re-opening (sometimes as many as 10-20), I finally get it to open. Any idea what's going on? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?
