first time user - can't connect

If anyone can help me with this it would be great.
I've looked at the Smart FTP connection tutorials and I've tried to connect but the program goes into Waiting mode and nothing happens. Also, for some reason I don't get a list of errors or any text showing me what's going on.

To Login:

Make your Address something like this, ftp.yourdomain.com (replacing yourdomain with your domain name Example: www.yourdomain.com) that information should go next to Address

Username: make the username the username of your FTP account (if you dont have one go into your cpanel and make one)

Password: it should be the same as your cpanel account but if it isnt log into your cpanel and make one

Port: your port should always be either pot 20 or port 21

then click the green login arrow to login (in the middle of your username and address)

That's exactly how I'm trying to do it but all I get is:

331 User xxxxxxxx OK. Password required
[20:32:56] PASS (hidden)
[20:32:57] 530 Login authentication failed
[20:32:57] Active Help: https://www.smartftp.com/support/kb/51
[20:32:57] Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)

I'm entering the password exactly as it should be.

Is it me doing something wrong or is something not working properly?

It was me

I found this in a tutorial:

and I realised that even though the domain had propogated enough to point to the host's server, it hadn't propogated enough to actually work.

I used the IP address and it worked perfectly first time.

I hope this will be helpful to someone else who comes along with the same problem.
