FTP prob with Toppy TF6000PVR

Hi there I'm a newbie here.
I've got a new Topfield TF6000PVR and am trying to get SmartFTP to download files.
Connection made fine through the wireless link (Billion 802.11g), and I can see the folders and files at the FTP site (The Toppy) and my PC, but when I do the drag and drop the download fails with the 'File "Name" not found in directory listing' (see below) message.
I'm not super literate with computer stuff, but can anyone advise.
Thanks,

Thanks Aokromes, Did all this, with no luck.

It seems your server just timeouts after the MDTM command for no reason. If this happens for every transfer then there is a bug with the FTP server.

SmartFTP

Hello ..

Timeouts are normal and are not caused by SmartFTP. The reason is probably your NAT router or FTP server which kills the control connection after a some time.
To use the Transfer Queue by default, go to the Menu: Tools -> Settings -> General -> Navigation and change the "Default Drag&Drop Operation" to Queue. After you changed that all transfers are added to the Transfer Queue which will automatically retry your broken transfers.

Unfortunately, making this change does not fix the problem, as the MDTM command is still issued before a file is downloaded, and after a file is uploaded. The Topfield TF6000PVRt FTP Server does not understand the MDTM command, or doesn't respond to it, so it times out every time the command is used. This means that downloads don't work, and uploads only complete after the MDTM times out. It seems that the Toppy's FTP server isn't the best.

A way around this would be if the MDTM command wasn't issued. Other (simpler?) applications do transfers without problems, as they don't use the MDTM command, but they have other issues, like they can't delete files from the server. Can transfers be done using SmartFTP without using the MDTM command? If so, how is its use turned off in SmartFTP? (2.5.1006) I haven't found a setting that turns it off.

Any help appreciated, as I like SmartFTP, and would like to keep using it. It looks better!

The server is not RFC compliant. We do not have any plans to support such products.

Did you install the latest firmware for Toppy?
http://www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/firmware.php

If the bug is not fixed yet your best chance is to report it to the developers of the FTP server software.

Thanks for the response Mat.

Yeah, I know the FTP Server isn't compliant with the standards. I don't think it is a bug, I think it is poor design and implementation. I don't know if they will ever fix it. I'm in Australia, and have the latest firmware version for the TF6000PVRt, so no way forward for me there.

I was just hoping that it was possible to turn off the MDTM command, as I understand it is just for versioning control, and to check for a successful transfer. Uploads work even though the post upload MDTM command fails. I'm sure downloads would work if the MDTM command wasn't issued before an attempt to download.

Thanks anyway.

Hi, [[[[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]][/[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]]][/[[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]][/[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]]]][/[[[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]][/[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]]][/[[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]][/[TRYPASVPORT][/TRYPASVPORT]]]]

I had the same problem, also with other clients. I solved it by simply changing the filename in the Topfield!!

Good luck,
Hans
