How to make pc-2-pc connection?

Question (and THE problem):

I've tried to establish connection from my pc to one of my friends pc using IP, but it doesn't work. What should I do to establish connection between us? And one more thing: these pc's aren't on same network.

In other words: the meaning of that is to setup private P2P network between my and my friends pc.

Another question:

I also tried to establish connection via SmartFTP to my second pc on same network (also with IP) but it didn't work. What should I do about it? Could be nice to get that thing work, too.

Note that FTP is not a P2P protocol. In order to transfer files via FTP, you need a server and a client. SmartFTP is the client only.

Any server clients around there (IF any)? Or did you mean that I need to setup i.e. my primary pc as server, and then connect to that IP from another client in other pc? What about that straight connection via FTP to other pc, i.e. I setup this pc as server and my friend connects straight to my IP. Does it work?

I've heard about rumours that you can establish IP-connected server that works on users harddrive instead of webhost. Tail on that one?

When I say "server" I mean "server software", not a PC (note there is no such thing as a "server client", it's either server or client). For a good free FTP server software running on Windows see

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... e_id=21737

Once the server software is installed on a PC, you can connect to it with SmartFTP (or any other FTP client). For help with the FileZilla Server, please go to their community at

Ok thanks. Have to try that one.

Btw: close this thread. I got all I needed.
