question about free for personal use

i'm very sorry if this is a stupid question, but i did not find any understandable answer anywhere in the site.

so, if i have smartftp client for personal use, how long can i use it for free? for one year? or forever?

please, clear out this question for me. i'd like to use the program, but the things i have read from the site got me quite confused.
