Making my PC a sever

hello everyone, i have searched all around google, but i cant find the answer anywhere. i simply need to know how to make my PC a server for sharing files. what steps do i take.in making the server. all the sites that i have been to tell me how to configure and stuff, but i cant configure if i dont have a server. so please do reply thanks.
