How To setup the Bitwarden credential provider

Follow these steps use Bitwarden with SmartFTP:

1. Setup

  1. In SmartFTP, go to the global settings:
    menu: File - Settings
  2. Go to the Bitwarden settings dialog
  3. Download the Bitwarden CLI tool (bw.exe)
    Note: The CLI only supports Windows 64-bit.
  4. Extract the .zip to a folder on your computer. E.g. C:\Program Files\Bitwarden
  5. Click on the ... browse file button in the dialog. Select bw.exe from the folder in 4.
  6. Optional: To use an on-premise Bitwarden server:
    - Open a command line
    - Go to the bw.exe
    - Type bw config server https://bw.yourcompany.com
  7. Click on the Log In button
  8. Enter the login (email) and password in the Log In dialog.
  9. Wait for the login process to complete.
  10. Click Synchronize to verify that the setup was successful
  11. Click OK to save the changes

2. Create a new connection in SmartFTP

  1. Go to the menu: File - Connection
  2. Select the Protocol
  3. Enter the Host
  4. Enter the Username
  5. Click on Properties
  6. In the Login group at the bottom, select Bitwarden in the Provider combo box
  7. Click OK to save the changes
  8. Click OK to connect to the server
  9. Enter the username and password into the Login dialog.
  10. Click OK
  11. A new Bitwarden Login item is automatically created and associated with the SmartFTP favorite.

Limitations

  • Amazon S3, Google Drive, OneDrive protocols are not supported.
  • Existing Bitwarden logins that were not created by SmartFTP will not be used
