visual compare doesn't update when file is uploaded/downloaded

Posted by kkez on 05 July 2011 - 03:29 PM

visual compare used to show different files in local and remote browser
now it doesn't anymore:
1) different files on the local and remote browser aren't highlighted when i open the favorite
2) if i edit some file on the local browser, the file is not highlighted
3) if i upload or download the file, the highlight isn't removed

the only way to fix it is to click on visual compare to disable it, then reenable it.

this was fine in 4.0.1194, if i remember correctly
i've just updated to smartftp version 4.0.1204 and the bug is there

Thank. I'm unable to reproduce the problem here. Can you try it with a fresh installation of SmartFTP and then send us detailed instructions on how to reproduce it?

To reset the registry settings take a look at this kb article:
http://www.smartftp....ings-f2625.html

i just tested with a fresh installation on my virtual machine with windows xp professional 32-bit, and was able to reproduce the bug straight away.
i've got a video to show you the steps to reproduce it, where can i upload it?

Thank you. I'm unable to reproduce the problem. On your system it seems that browsers do not receive the DISPID_CONTENTSCHANGED event that is sent by the views. Please check if you can reproduce the problem on a fresh installation of Windows 7 SP1.

it was working before, nothing has changed in my system.
i restored an old version of smartftp (4.0.1162) and it's working fine there.
why do old versions work?

if you could you send me some recent-but-not-so-recent version of smartftp (like the 4.0.1193 version and before) i could test when this went wrong.

I have already reviewed the changes we made between 1190 and the latest build and I could not spot any potential issues there. We have also tested it in our test farm and we were not able to reproduce the problem so far. So I recommend that you try to reproduce the problem on a fresh installation of Windows 7 SP1 (e.g. virtual machine).

Tested on newly created virtual machine with Windows 7 = same issue
Tested on another virtual machine i already had with Windows vista installed, on which i didn't install anything = same issue

By the way, the file last modified date is updated in the listview of the local browser, as you can see in the video. It's just the highlight that isn't there.
Could be the ftp server?

I see it now as well. The problem will be fixed in the next build. It affected release builds but not the debug builds we use here. I apologize for your inconvenience.

it works now.
thanks.

actually, it still doesn't quite work as before: the highlight isn't refreshed.
here's how to reproduce:
1) open a favorite with local and remote browser (highlight is ok, shows different and missing files)
2) go to a parent folder in the local or remote browser, then go back to the folder you were before: the highlight isn't restored as it was before
