Cannot delete a file containing reserved character

Posted by Kanwar on 26 January 2011 - 08:27 PM

Hello there,

I have a file on my FTP server that is named as "admin_Kanwar\'s Test.PDF", which I cannot delete nor I can rename it. I guess this is because filename contains a backslash and an apostrophy, which UNIX doesn't like. But on the hand, I wonder how filename was accepted the first place. So, I am unsure whether it is UNIX issue or SmartFTP cannot handle it. Any insight is highly appreciated.

Please post the log from the remote browser showing your delete attempt.
And please post the raw directory listing of the directory containing the file: Right-click on the folder and select "Show Raw Listing" from the context menu.

Wow, mb; that was quick! Here is the information you asked for.

The FTP server doesn't allow the filename so you cannot delete it through FTP. If your server offers SSH access, open a terminal and try to delete the file this way. Otherwise please contact your web hosting provider. They should be able to delete the file.
