No upper limit for browser cache causes out of memory exception

Posted by mb on 21 October 2010 - 05:18 AM

At least one Remote Browser is open. When uploading 100-thousands of files using the queue, the application will eventually run out of memory.

After each file that has been uploaded, the transfer queue sends a shell notification. The shell notification is then processed by the browser cache manager which in turn updates the cache (adds a file/folder to the tree data structure). Since the complete cache data is loaded in memory, each new item will use a certain amount of memory.

Close all Remote Browsers before/during a lengthy unattended upload.

Possible Fixes
- Set upper limit for browser cache
- Use database for browser cache with a fixed memory limit
- Do not update browser cache under certain situations (e.g. unattended runs, user inactivity)
