How To setup the Proton Pass credential provider
Follow these steps use Proton Pass with SmartFTP:
1. Setup
- In SmartFTP, go to the global settings:
menu: File - Settings - Go to the Credential Providers settings dialog
- Select Proton Pass from the list and click on Properties
- Install the Proton Pass CLI tool (pass-cli.exe):
Open PowerShell and type:Invoke-WebRequest -Uri https://proton.me/download/pass-cli/install.ps1 -OutFile install.ps1; .\install.ps1 - By default, the pass-cli.exe is installed into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\ProtonPass
- Click on the ... browse file button in the dialog. Select pass-cli.exe from the folder in 5.
- Open a command line (cmd.exe) and go to the folder (cd %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\ProtonPass) with the pass-cli.exe and type:
pass-cli.exe login
Follow the instructions. - Click Test to verify that the setup was successful
- Click OK to save the changes
2. Create a new connection in SmartFTP
- Go to the menu: File - Connection
- Select the Protocol
- Enter the Host
- Enter the Username
- Click on Properties
- In the Login group at the bottom, select Proton Pass in the Provider combo box
- To use an existing Proton Pass item, click on the ... button.
If no existing item is selected, a new item will be created on the next login attempt. - Click OK to save the changes
- Click OK to connect to the server
- Enter the username and password into the Login dialog.
- Click OK
- A new Proton Pass Login item is automatically created and associated with the SmartFTP favorite.
Notes
- The Proton Pass command-line interface (CLI) tool is not available in the free Proton Pass plan.
- When moving a login item to a different vault, the item / credential must be reassigned to the favorite.
- Amazon S3, Google Drive, OneDrive protocols are not supported.
