Install the Windows Performance Toolkit from the Windows SDK [1].

  1. wpr -start handle
  2. reproduce the case
  3. wpr -stop "%TEMP%\handle.etl"
  4. wpa "%TEMP%\handle.etl"
  5. Memory - Handles - Outstanding Count by Process
  6. Add graph to Analysis View
  7. Series - SmartFTP.exe
  8. Right-click SmartFTP.exe, select Filter to Selection
  9. Add the Create Stack (Frame Tags) to the columns
  10. menu: Trace - Load Symbols
  11. Drill-down to the function in the stack trace
