Problem

SmartFTP is not able to verify SmartFTP.exe.

Causes

Root certificates are not up-to-date

Solution

Windodws Update

1. Go to Windows Update 
2. Click on Custom
3. Install all High Priority updates (including Internet Explorer 8)
4. Install the Update for Root Certificates in the Windows XP category

Or if you are unable to run Windows Update add the root certificate manually:

1. Open Windows Explorer (explorer.exe)
2. Go to the SmartFTP program files folder. e.g. C:\Program Files\SmartFTP Client
3. Right-click on SmartFTP.exe
4. Select Properties
5. Go to the Digital Signatures dialog
6. Select the SmartSoft Ltd. certificate
7. Click on Details
8. Click on View Certificate
9. Go to the Certification Path tab
10. Select the Verisign certificate
11. Click on View Certificate
12. Click on Install Certificate... and install the certificate into the Trusted Certificates store

SmartFTP.exe has been corrupted

Solution

Reinstall SmartFTP.
