Failed to verify SmartFTP.exe
Problem
SmartFTP is not able to verify SmartFTP.exe.
Causes
Root certificates are not up-to-date
Solution
Windodws Update
- Go to Windows Update
- Click on Custom
- Install all High Priority updates (including Internet Explorer 8)
- Install the Update for Root Certificates in the Windows XP category
Or if you are unable to run Windows Update add the root certificate manually:
- Open Windows Explorer (explorer.exe)
- Go to the SmartFTP program files folder. e.g. C:\Program Files\SmartFTP Client
- Right-click on SmartFTP.exe
- Select Properties
- Go to the Digital Signatures dialog
- Select the SmartSoft Ltd. certificate
- Click on Details
- Click on View Certificate
- Go to the Certification Path tab
- Select the Verisign certificate
- Click on View Certificate
- Click on Install Certificate... and install the certificate into the Trusted Certificates store
If this doesn't work install the root certificate manually:
- Go to http://www.verisign.com/support/roots.html
- Download and extract the root package: Download a root package (roots.zip)
- Double click the "Generation 5 (G5) PCA\VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority - G5.cer"
- In the certificate properties dialog, click on Install Certificate...
- Select Place all certificates in the following store
- Click Browse...
- Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities
