Bluetooth Drivers / Helper

Problem

Several low cost Bluetooth products come with a shell extension that causes SmartFTP to crash when downloading files using Drag&Drop or by clicking on the Copy/Move buttons in the middle toolbar.

Solution

Identify the shell extension file and unregister it or uninstall the Bluetooth driver.

Adobe Photoshop 7

Problem

When the Adobe Photoshop thumbnail/icon shell extension (psicon.dll) is installed, the SmartFTP process hangs (not responding) when files with a .psd extension are displayed in the Transfer Queue.

Cause

psicon.dll's RPC calls cause a dead lock.

Solution

Go to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell folder and rename the psicon.dll file to psicon.disable.dll.

Kaspersky Internet Security

Problem

When using a high global upload transfer limit with multiple workers the SmartFTP process consumes all available CPU resources.

Cause

Kaspersky cannot handle a high numbers of Winsock send() calls efficiently.

Solution

Disable or uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security.

Windows 2008

Problem

When the preview pane in SmartFTP is enabled and the user selects a file with a .htm or .html extension the Windows HTML Preview handler is loaded. The preview handler causes the COM host surrogate process to crash (DEP).

Cause

Bug in Windows 2008 .html preview handler.

SlipStream Accelerator

Problem

When downloading multiple folders or files SmartFTP crashes unexpectedly.

Cause

SlipStream Accelerator installs a LSP dll which inserts itself into Winsock respectively into the TCP/IP stack. Due to a bug in this dll (sliplsp.dll) it causes the crash.

TuneUp Utilities 2010

Problem

When selecting (or right-clicking) files or folders in the Local Browser SmartFTP crashes unexpectedly.

Cause

TuneUp Utilities installs two shell context menu handlers: TuneUp Shredder and TuneUp Folder Size. These context menu handlers contain a bug that will cause an access violation.

Solution

Manually disable the shell context menu handlers using ShellExtView or uninstall TuneUp Utilities 2010.

 

Advanced SystemCare v5

Problem

The registry fix tool in ACS v5 breaks the SmartFTP drag&drop function.

Cause

The registry fix in ACS v5 mistakenly removes vital registry keys from SmartFTP.

Solution

Do not use the registry fix in ACS v5 until the bug in ACS is fixed. The bug has been reported here: http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?t=12286

 

Memeo Connect

Problem

Opening a Local Browser in SmartFTP triggers a crash bug in memeo's shell extension (MemeoConnectNamespace.x64.dll).

Cause

Bug in MemeoConnectNamespace.x64.dll.

Solution

Uninstall Memeo Connect. Quote from memeo's support: "Please go ahead and uninstall Memeo Connect through the Control Panel.  The software is no longer supported and will not a receive a build that is compatible with Windows 8.  Our apologies for the inconvenience."

 

Seagate Replica

Problem

Opening a Local Browser in SmartFTP triggers a crash bug in Seagate Replica's shell extension (Seagate-Replica-NSE.dll).

Cause

Bug in Seagate-Replica-NSE.dll. We have contacted Seagate support and we were told that Seagate Replica is not compatible with Windows 8.

Solution

Uninstall Seagate Replica.
