In the connection settings you are given the choice between active and passive modes. I have used the default (active) without any problems for the majority of the time that I have been using SmartFTP. However, there was this one time (at band camp!) when I had to switch to passive mode and I believe this was with a Unix/Linux based FTP host.
Am I likely to have to make this change every time I access a non-Windows based system? What essentially is the difference between active and passive modes anyway?
